If you’re like me, you do a lot of dishes. Even if you’re not much like me at all, you probably still do your fair share. It seems like whenever I am doing dishes (or even cleaning in general), I’m always groping for something to wipe my hands with. In our old house, I hung our dish towels over the handle to the oven and it worked well enough. But in our new place (are you tired of reading about all these changes from the move yet?) there’s no “good” place to hang a dish towel and it seems there’s never one around when I need it. Okay, this is really starting to sound like an infomercial. “Has this ever happened to you?” Cue person who breaks her wrist while cracking an egg.
Anyhow, my sister gave me this tip a few weeks ago:
Wear an apron with a long tie, wrap the tie back around the front (after it has gone around the back) and tuck a dish towel in the tie.
It seems silly, but this trick really has changed my life for the better. I’m serious, the dish towel thing has been one of those little annoyances about to drive me crazy.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t pop an apron on every time I need to put a couple of forks in the dishwasher. But it seems I frequently become engaged in dish-doing marathons and at that point, this apron tie/dish towel is pretty handy. Incidentally, I should mention that my sister made me that apron, too. I’m not sure why she picked a cat fabric, but she was only 10.
Anyhow, give it a try sometime! That is, if wanting a dish towel handy is a priority for you. And even if it isn’t, go for it anyway. It could change your life. (Probably not—but you never know!)
