Today’s favorite thing is definitely a little more mommy-oriented. Because mommies can all use a little more help, right?
Medela SoftShells for sore nipples. Sorry, but I have to go here! These little lovlies have saved the ladies for me on more than one occasion. I EP’d for my first two and didn’t discover these until I was doing it the second time around. And boy, did they save the day then! My third has been the only one who has really and truly nursed and we definitely struggled in the beginning, in big part because his palate is about a mile-high. Which can cause a lot of soreness. I used the soft shells a lot in the beginning and they definitely helped. Once we hit our groove, we went many months without troubles until just recently, when we had a number of biting episodes. And believe me, being bit by your one-year-old repeatedly is not fun. Luckily I finally managed to curtail the biting but was left with some major cracks that wouldn’t heal. I couldn’t find my pair so I ordered some more from Amazon.
The nice thing about these is you can pop them in your bra and they allow air to circulate, which really speeds and promotes healing. They can kind of make your chest look a little bit “off” under your shirt but believe me, when I need these I don’t care about that sort of thing. I’ve also read that if you’re dealing with thrush then these may or may not be a good option. They do tend to trap moisture, which isn’t good for thrush. But my experiences with them have been nothing short of awesome. I don’t think we would have made it through nursing (or pumping) without them!
