Continuing with the Just for Baby series, I’ve decided that this week I will share one of my favorite tips for helping you get through some of those early challenges of breastfeeding a baby.
I’ve now mentioned nursing a couple of times on this blog. Breastfeeding has been important to me personally. But please don’t get the wrong idea—I’ll support you no matter how you choose to feed your baby. If you do choose to nurse, it can be tough, especially in the beginning. Here is a tip that I got from one of my La Leche League leaders that I just loved:
If you’re having a struggle, get a calendar and write a brief description of your problem on a date that’s four to six weeks in the future. When you write it down, remind yourself that when that date actually arrives, the problem will most likely have resolved. And guess what? Every time I wrote about an issue I was having, it was resolved by the time the date rolled around. For some reason, doing this really helped me get through those hard times by reminding me that they too would pass. They also served as a reminder of what I’d overcome! Usually by the time I actually read that note on my calendar, I’d completely forgotten about my issue and then I’d feel a little sense of accomplishment in having gotten through it.
So you go girl! You’re strong and amazing and you can get through it! You got this, I promise!
