Today I am excited to share not one, not three, but TWO looks from a palette that I’ve recently fallen in love with (again).
This is the In the Light palette by Stila. Stila actually has a line of In the __ palettes and this is the only one I’ve tried. But I am LOVING it.
I actually bought this palette late last summer. I used it when I bought it, of course, but only a few months later the Vice 2 by Urban Decay came out and my In the Light palette got left at the bottom of my makeup bag. But no more! Lately I’ve broken it out again and have been using it like crazy. The shades are sooo pretty, especially this one:
Kitten. This is one of Stila’s signature shade and it is GORGEOUS. It is a light, glittery golden color and it is probably one of my all-time favorite shades. I’ve been using it as much as I can. I like shiny things, remember?
The shades in this palette have good pigmentation. I wouldn’t say that the pigmentation is quite as good as the Naked palettes (which is the gold-standard, in my mind) but is still a high-quality palette. You get a lot for the price.
If you buy this palette, you’ll see that comes with a little booklet of looks that you can try (which I like, I love tutorials—in case you can’t tell). But if you’re ready for more, then read on!
Look #1. I like this look because it is shimmery and makes me feel pretty but it isn’t super-bright or overpowering. It is a nice everyday look.
Sticking with my need for simplicity, this look is fairly simple to do. Here’s how it’s done:
Bare goes all over the eye area—from the lash line to the brow bone. Bare is fantastic to use as a kind of shadow base.
Next, Kitten goes all over the lid and just a tiny bit in the inner corner. I like putting it in the inner corner, but not too much because just a little of the shade makes a big impact.
Sunset goes on the outer third of the eyelid.
Lastly, I combine Bubbly and Gilded Gold on a brush and apply those to the crease. I then blend the look to my liking.
And here I am looking wistfully out the window. Not staged at all.
And guess who had to be in my arms the entire time? He is getting an early start on learning how to brush his own teeth.
And now for look #2. (And btw, excuse my oily-looking face and the pictures! I had to take them myself and it was quite tricky!)
As you can see, it is pretty similar. This one is a little (very little) darker and uses more Sunset (the shimmery pink shade).
For this look, start by applying Bare all over the eye area (again). Then apply Sunset on the middle third of your eyelid.
Next, apply Bubbly on the inner third of your eyelid. I love Bubbly. I don’t think it is as “famous” as Kitten, but it’s just really pretty. It’s another one I don’t think I can get enough of.
Then, just a little Night Sky goes on the outer corner. Night sky is a shimmery bluish color and I use it in this look to give a little more dimension to it. You have to be careful with this shade, though. I’ve found that it looks odd (a bit like you have a black eye) with these shades if you use too much.
Lastly, Gilded Gold goes in the crease and then you blend. I’ve found that I really like using Gilded Gold for my crease.
Pretty simple, right?
Yep. That diaper over there definitely smells suspicious.
So there you have it! This palette is another one that I feel is worth the price tag if you are looking to invest. Consider trying it next time you want to spend on yourself!
Do you have this or one of Stila’s other palettes? Tell me what you think!
