Holy cow, can you guess what finally came in the mail yesterday? Yep!
It kind of felt like it took forever to get here. I was so excited when it did finally arrive, it felt a little like Christmas! I didn’t have tons and tons of time to play around with it yesterday, but I did have some, and so I’ll tell you what my initial thoughts were.
In case you can’t tell, I don’t like committing to a judgment right away. These are my first impressions and I’ll give a more thorough update after I’ve used it for a bit longer.
First things first. The LORAC Pro 2 Palette will be released in stores on June 29 (a mere three days away!) but you can purchase it through Ulta on-line (although at this point, I’d just wait to get it in a store).
The palette retails for $42.00 and it has 16 shades, eight matte and eight shimmery shades. (Each shade is .02 oz, in case you’re wondering). I feel like it has a nice variety of colors and it is quite different from other palettes that I own, which is one reason I wanted it!
I stink at swatching. Sorry! Also, that first shade (Buff) is apparently the exact same color as my arm. I couldn’t get it to show up, no matter how much I applied! Anyway, these are the shades from the top row (the matte shades). I had to stack them like this because I have ropes for veins and my arm gets pretty unattractive closer to my wrists.
These are the shimmery shades. And boy, they are definitely shimmery!
I need to add that this palette is actually my first-ever LORAC product. I don’t have the original LORAC Pro palette so I can’t compare the two.
So my initial thoughts? This is a fantastic palette! I like it a lot and I’m pretty sure I’ll be using it a ton. Is it my absolute most-favorite palette of all time? Probably not, but that shouldn’t deter you from getting it! (Urban Decay’s Vice 2 stole my heart last fall and it has yet to be won over by any other palette.) There are so many things you can do with these shades—anything from subtle everyday looks to dramatic evening looks to just about everything else in between. I love that there are so many shades, I love that the colors range quite dramatically, and I really like the 1:1 matte/shimmer ratio.
The shadows are very pigmented, which is a must in my book. My one issue thus far is that it seems that the darker shades (particularly the dark matte shades) are a bit more powdery than the other shades. They don’t glide on as evenly and they tend not to stick as well to the lid. That’s not to say that they are a bust, but using primer will be a must!
As far as standout shades, I don’t know if I can choose! I really liked Mocha and Nectar when I was playing around with it. Lt. Brown is going to be an excellent crease/blending shade. And of course I was drawn to Navy, because I’m a little obsessed with blue.
And speaking of, I ended up doing a look using Navy as the predominant color. I was going to try really hard to do a light, neutral look but I couldn’t stop myself. I am a color-addict.
The finished look. Navy is a really dark, intense color and so I tempered it a bit. (I was going to a meeting right after and I didn’t want my eye look to be too dark.)
Up close and personal. This is actually after a couple hours of wear.
What I did:
- Navy all over the lid (lash line to crease).
- Silver layered on top of Navy and blended in over it
- Lt. Brown in the crease and blended
- Charcoal on the outer corner of the eye and blended up into the crease
- Buff in the inner corner
Other products I used on the rest of my face:
- bareMinerals BARESKIN foundation – Bare Linen 03 (by the way, I am really starting to love this foundation, with certain caveats. You can read my initial impressions here).
- Mally Perfect Prep Under Eye Brightener – Lighter (featured in one of my Friday Favorites here).
- Too Faced Brow Envy Brow Shaping & Defining Kit
- CoverGirl Bombshell Volume Mascara (this was my first time using it and I’m not sure what my opinion is yet).
- NARS Blush – Orgasm (my second favorite blush, next to this one).
- Too Faced Glamour Gloss – Pillow Talk
Okay, and just for fun I decided I’d share something really special with you. After my hubby finished helping me take pictures of my makeup, I decided to sit out side and practice taking serious pictures of myself (because I’m terrible at serious pictures). I didn’t end up with anything good, but I had quite a montage of bad photos. Here are some of the best:
- I’m a little sad and perplexed…I don’t know why.
- I must be bored. My eyes are glazed-over.
- I’m definitely wistful in this one.
- Here I’m totally confused…and a dash amused.
- This is my diabolical I’m coming after you look.
Also, I promise that my hair looked decent at one point, but the wind kept picking it up until it kind of became a hot mess. Stupid wind.
All joking aside, I am really excited about this palette. I can’t wait to really play around with it and see all the different looks that I can create. I’m looking forward to seeing what others come up with as well!
Have a great day!
