I’ve been feeling somewhat uninspired lately when it comes to my sewing. I think it’s partly because I’ve been bogged down with making these and these:
Ugh. Can I just tell you that I am so over curtains? The ones you see above are in my son’s room. Note that there are still two more windows to cover! Which, by the way, will take three more panels. I can’t take it, I tell you!
For the past few days I’ve been trying really hard to come up with something fun, that I want to do and feel inspired by. I started working on a shirred top for my daughter, but I’m just not that into it.
I started to think about the times when I’ve had the most fun creating and sewing and there’s no doubt that it has been these times:
Halloween. I love making costumes and I LOVE tulle.
For the past several years (since my daughter was a baby), we’ve been all about the themed costumes. And, for the past two years, I’ve been all about making costumes myself. I didn’t make my son’s wolf costume that you see above, but last year I ventured out and made one for every.single.person in our family (daddy and I included).
In this house, it is never too early to start thinking about Halloween. So wouldn’t you know we already have our costumes all planned out and I’ve been buying patterns and fabric when they’ve been on sale. I think this might be the last year that my oldest will be a willing participant in the family costume gig, and so you’d better believe that I’m going to make the most of it.
But it’s still early and I’m not quite read to start sewing our costumes just yet. But here’s a thought…maybe you are! Maybe you’re like me and just getting into all this sewing stuff. Maybe you’re trying to figure out how to piece together a certain costume or you’re wondering if a certain tutorial or pattern is really as easy as they say. If you are, let me know! Leave a comment about what tutorial/costume/pattern review you’d like to see and I’ll try and whip something together! And who knows, maybe there will be a giveaway or two involved!
To get the ball rolling, I already have something in mind that I’m going to start working on, for two reasons: 1) My kids are really into this right now and 2) I haven’t really come across any tutorials for this yet. I’m not into pirating pictures (pun intended) so if you want to see what I’ll be working on, then click here! (And trust me–there will be tulle.)
So if you are ready to get ready for Halloween and are wondering how to get started, let me know. Let’s see if we can make something awesome together!
Since writing this post, the Pirate Fairy costume tutorial has been written! You can find the first post here!
